“Bhangarh Fort” one of the most haunted place in India

The popularity of Bhangrah Fort is increasing with every passing day. I have visited Bhangarh Fort many times over the last few years. Earlier it was merely a fort ruin and a picnic spot. As the stories of Bhangarh Fort ghosts went around, it started attracting a large number of tourists and travelers. I believe social media and travel bloggers have contributed towards making Bhangarh Fort a sought-after site. This place is still not very popular among the foreign tourists though. Bhangarh Fort is popular as India’s most haunted place. Here is a blog on Bhangarh Fort travel guide to help you plan your trip to Bhangarh Fort

Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan

This abandoned town in Rajasthan, home to a majestic fort, is reported to be one of the most haunted places in India. Bhangarh and its ruins are closed to visitors from sunset to sunrise, reportedly the time with the highest paranormal activity on the premises. According to one of the tales about Bhangarh, a tantrik priest fell in love with the princess Ratnavati, who was described as ‘the jewel of Rajasthan’. The priest planned to cast a spell on her so she would fall for him as well. However, when the princess came to know of this plan, the priest was killed. Before dying, he cursed the town. Now, it lays in ruin and is inhabitable for anyone. It is believed that the roofs of the temples and houses fall down the moment they are built. Those who have dared to stay in the fort overnight have reported hearing footsteps and the screeching of a woman.

Bhangarh Fort Location

Bhangarh Fort is situated in Alwar district, Rajasthan close to Sariska National Park/ Sariska Tiger Reserve. It is not far from the Sariska entrance gate at Tehla. Unlike most forts in Rajasthan, it is not built on a hill. Bhangarh Fort lies in a very interesting geographical location with hills on three sides. So, in a way, it defies the usual Rajput norm of building a fort on a hill.

Timings

Bhangarh Fort can be visited anytime from sunrise to sunset. Entry to Bhangarh Fort is prohibited after sunset. Bhangarh Fort is maintained by ASI.

What Happens in the Bhangarh Fort at Night?

A night view of the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan

ASI forbids visitors and locals from hanging around the vicinity of the fort once the sun sets. The warnings about legal actions are not merely out of rumors. People claim to have heard Bhangarh ghosts scream, voices of women crying, sounds of bangles in the rooms, and eerie smells after dusk. Ghostly shadows, strange lights, and unusual sounds of music and dance have also been reported. Repeated spine-chilling instances experienced by the visitors engrave this fort’s position at the pinnacle of the most haunted places in Rajasthan. The brave hearts who dared to stay back after dusk have failed to appear alive the next morning.

The Sights

The fort

Said to be modelled along the lines of Shahjahanabad in Old Delhi, the Fort is enclosed by four huge wooden gates in every direction. Curiously for a fort said to be haunted, Bhangarh’s enclosures have more than half a dozen small temples, including those of Hanuman, Gopinath, Mangla Devi and others. More a town than a fort, Bhangarh’s ruined remnants have areas like the Jauhari Bazaar and the Dancers’ Haveli. There’s certainly a lot to explore here, and during the daytime, you may not even feel the slightest sense of gloom – with the number of tourists and locals that throng its many walls. It is, of course, quite a different story at night

All in all, Bhangarh Fort is certainly worth a visit, if only a one-time visit. Whether with family or friends, give the place a try. Just one caution: do not attempt to cross its boundaries after hours. There are some things that are better off left untried. Oh, and heart patients, it’s best to give this place a miss.
